I find it hard to switch off from being creative. I struggle to watch TV, play video games, or simply just relax because I can’t help but think I should be working on something. I always think I should be putting my time to better things, even when I know I don’t need to be. I don’t particularly like that side of me, but it is the side of me that keeps me driven. I’ve always got to be working on something. When Cally asked me to be involved in Cally Online, and proposed what he had in mind, I thought this would be a great opportunity to start doing something I’m not yet doing enough of - 1. giving stuff away, and 2. Delving into ‘why’ I’m doing what I’m doing. Starting something new always comes with a risk. In this instance, what if what we’ve planned doesn’t quite work as we’d hoped, or what if people just don’t like the work I create. As a creative (especially one who can’t switch off), you’ve got to keep moving, you’ve got to keep trying new things and you’ve got to keep adapting, because things will keep moving with or without you. Each week, I’m going to try and give something away. Whether that’s phone wallpapers, or prints, or educational content, I’m hoping this will become a long-running initiative to give back as a creative. I’m starting with a phone wallpaper because it’s the first thing I’ve got prepared, so soz if you wanted more, but lets just start small and go from there. It’s from a new project I’ve started called ‘The Art of Scoring’.
I hope you like it and feel free to share it with me on social media. See you next week.
